I really LOVED this movie. Mysterious, sexy, fun and beautifully shot and edited. The actors are great and beautiful to look at and the cinematography is original with lots of colors. It is shot like a stylized Japanese cartoon and the dialogue is hilarious. I'll definitely see it again and again.

Someone told me in advance of seeing 'Kaboom' that it's like Gregg Araki's gonzo films of the 1990's re-mixed with his more serious work of last decade. Based on what I saw, I can agree with that assertion to a point, but in the end, when you regress to earlier work, it's never a good sign.

Thankfully, both the fun bitchery from the female characters as well as the fun nakedness from the male characters are present in spades, so you know you're watching an Araki film. However, while the murder mystery elements of 'Kaboom' are intriguing to a point, weaving something quasi-serious into this fabric made for an ill-fitting choice in this case.

I'm also not entirely convinced that the casting of the film measures up to what Araki has given us time and again. Tom Dekker and Juno Temple are sure to be breakout stars, but neither does the kind of iconic work of a Kathleen Robertson, or James Duval or Anna Faris that make Araki's films compulsively watchable, even sweetly thought-provoking.

The hardcore Araki fans will enjoy the way this film's gleeful and purposeful spiral out of control but it left me wondering if he intends to make something as truly masterful as 'Mysterious Skin' again. The films from the '90s were their glorious own thing, so beyond trying to Kevin Smith-pander to the fanbase, why not breakout a la Gus Van Sant and make something that shows he has the chops to make great, breakthrough films again? We're waiting for your big-time masterpiece, Gregg! You so have it in you, so put the greatest hits away and get to work!

WOW - I really enjoyed this picture - even though the ending is a bit odd - the rest of the film is awesome! MAJOR suspense that really got my nerves going! As someone who has intensely weird dreams I totally related to the movie! And there's something erotically charged watching THOMAS DEKKER having sex with other hot guys! Hes hot to begin with, but throw him in bed with a hot surfer dude and then the football jock - and you have a serious KABOOM on your hands!

Yeah - this wont win an Oscar but it DEFINITELY gets a WOODY from me! :~)
